From Berlin to Nigeria

Kreuzberg Basketball BEATs is a community-based basketball club and youth development initiative rooted in Berlin, Germany. For more than fifteen years, the organization has combined high-level basketball training with social, cultural, and educational work, creating a safe and empowering space for children, youth, and their families in a diverse urban environment.
Cultural exchange has always been a central pillar of Kreuzberg Basketball BEATS’ work. Over the years, players and coaches have taken part in international exchanges and learning experiences in cities such as London, Chicago, Belgrade, and Eugene, Oregon, while also hosting visiting youth groups in Berlin—including a group of teenagers from Chicago’s South Side. These experiences have consistently shown how powerful shared learning, exposure to different realities, and personal encounters can be in broadening perspectives and creating lasting bonds across borders.
Long Termin Partnership
Clear Blue Water Foundation is currently building a long-term partnership with the Kreuzberg Basketball BEATs in Berlin. This collaboration is based on the idea of working together on an equal level – sharing knowledge, ideas, and creativity rather than following a one-directional support model. Both organizations believe that young people, regardless of where they grow up, benefit most when they are actively involved in shaping projects and exchanges themselves.

As part of this partnership, children and youth from Kreuzberg will be directly involved in joint initiatives with their peers in Nigeria. Planned and evolving activities include collaborative fundraising and equipment drives, online exchanges and discussions, shared creative projects such as music, video, or podcast formats, and other forms of youth-led cooperation. The focus lies on mutual learning, cultural dialogue, and creating opportunities to see the world – and oneself – from new perspectives.
Through this partnership, Kreuzberg Basketball Beats and the Clear Blue Water Foundation aim to connect communities, empower young people, and demonstrate how sports, culture, and creativity can serve as powerful tools for global understanding and solidarity.
